“Don Bosco Youth Centre” activities

1. EDUCATION
A. DON BOSCO TRAINING CENTER (DBTC)
The Don Bosco Training Center is a Technical School whose aim is to form poor children from 17 to 25 years old.
Now there are 150 students and 21 teachers.
The biennial courses are:
- for boys: Mechanical Engineer Corse and Machine Operator School
- for girls: Secretary Course
The Technical School was approved by the Anambra State in 1998 and it received for the first time in Nigeria the acknowledgement from the Kaduna NBTE (National Board for Technical Education) at national level. It received also the acknowledgement from the NABTEB (Nigerian Business and Technical Examination Board) as Exames Centre.
So students can have a Technical School Degree and the National Acknowledgement of Technicians granted by the State of Nigeria.
More than 750 students have already found a job in a factory. Other students find a job and try to go on with the universtary studies.

B. DON BOSCO SECONDARY SCHOOL (DBSS)
The Don Bosco Secondary School (JSS1, Junior Secondary School 1) is a Catholic Institution for children that had just finished Primary School. It begins every September and it is divided into two sections each one of 35-40 students. The Secondary School program is going to guarantee to the students a complete knowledge to continue with the University or with the Don Bosco Technical School.

2. ORATORY
The Oratory is a real training  “laboratory” full of instructive and evangelical proposals. It is caraterized by a strong relationship between children and educators.
- Holiday Oratory
- Animateur Course (Leadership Course, Bible Course, EDUCATION TO VALUES AGAINST HIV/AIDS Course: “Do you love life? STOP AIDS!” – PLAN I, II, III);
- School Activities organized by the UBE 
- Holiday Camp (in August

3. HALL FOR RESIDENCE

The Mission offers a Hall of Residence divided into 3 hostels for more or less 80 students coming from far villages or from other cities of Nigeria.

4. GROUPS

Don Bosco’s ex-students
The Don Bosco ex-student association is in Onitsha, Port-Harcourt and Lagos.
The annual program include: meetings and periodic retreats; activities to support all the stundents; to spread the Salesiani’s magazines; to donate money to develop the Technical School.

Salesiani’s Collaborators and Devouts Auxiliary Mary Association (ADMA)
The annual program include: a monthly retreat; a biblical course; community services; activities to collect money; to spread the Salesiani’s magazines.
Become a Volunteer with Don Bosco
In Onitsha there is the “Become a Volunteer with Don Bosco”. The first in Nigeria and the first in Africa.

5. INTERNATIONAL VOLONTARY

The Community of Salesiani with the International Volontary (www.volint.it) organizes the following activities to promote the cooperation between the people:
- Experience of Mission (in August)
- International Volontari (2 years course)
Now there is a volunteer that is going to do the course for two years (2006-2008) as a teacher in the Secretary Course.

6. CANDIDATES
Every year groups of 5-8 candidates (between 18 and 23 years old) are going to prepare themselves for the pre-novitiate.

7. PASTORAL CENTRE (OUTSTATION)
The Community of Salesiani provides many activities for the local Church for instance: Eucharistic Ceremony in english (also in others religious communities), Confessions, meetings and others diocesan programs.

8. TWIN TOWNS

In 2006-2008 The Don Bosco Training Centre (Nigeria) was twinned with the Ancona School Institution.
