To educate the youths of tomorrow

The New President of Nigeria HE Dr. Goodluck Ebele  Jonathan  appointed Prof (Mrs) Ruqayyatu Rufa’i  as Minister for Education. One of her first move has been to participate in the ‘roundtable dialogue’  organized by NERDEC ( Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council) to find the better way to update the Teacher.   In particular the meeting was held find the way  to fill the gap of the preparation of the teacher for the new subjects introduced in the Curricula of Senior Secondary School in the context of knowledge of subject matters, teaching skills and competences.  We truly need  to produce Secondary School Teachers who can teach the new subject introduced in the Secondary School Education Curricula like Computer Studies ITC, Civil Education, and 34 Trade/Entrepreneurship subjects ( ... GSM maintenance, photography, cosmetology, tourism  ...) .

Also we, Salesians, feel  strongly the need not only of scholastic structures, for our students which number is increasing, but also to prepare educators ready to teach the new subjects introduced in the educative curricula of the Secondary School ( like ITC Informatics Education, Civil Education)and the 34 commercial and industrial subjects ( ... Maintenance of GSM, Photography, Tourism ... ).

At the end of the scholastic year, we are preparing an one week seminar for teacher of the Don Bosco Secondary School. Among the topic there will be Developmental psychology, pedagogy in relation to our preventive educative system,  group dynamics,  management, computer programs knowledge, education to faith.

Goal of the Federal Government  polices is that every graduate should “be prepared for higher  education, has acquired relevant functional trade/entrepreneurship skills needed for poverty eradication, job creation and wealth generation  and in the process strengthen further the foundation for ethical, moral and civic values acquired at the basic educational level.”

Working hard and with  the hearth of Don Bosco,  we commit ourselves to the preparation of the new generations of Nigeria, through the construction of new classes, which we hope will be ready for the beginning of the new scholastic year, and through a professional culture able to give a reply to the dominant requests of Nigerian society.

Yours

Fr Nicola
